A yard sale

Is set by Riverside King High School Band from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the school,
9301 Wood Road. Proceeds will go to the band, which marched in the 2007 Rose Parade and took
home the master Champion Award at the Fiesta Bowl National Championships in Arizona.

Absurd Recreation is a multi-media group exhibition of artists from China who use playful,
humorous, ritualistic imagery, as if they were engaging in an absurdist, leisurely “recreation” that
focuses on their interior lives and keeps the external world at an arm’s length. Organized by UCR
Sweeney Art Gallery, and curated by gallery director Tyler Stallings. Catalog available.

Artist's exhibit set for Saturday

The first solo show for Corona-based artist and art instructor ReemaZoumut is set from Saturday
through Aug. 30 at the Corona Public Library, 650 S. Main St. A reception is set from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday.
Zoumut will show 30 mixed-media paintings and computer graphics in the second-floor gallery
including the "Floating Image" series of 20 paintings, many of which were created in collaboration
with her Corona-based students.
She has been teaching drawing, painting and animation classes for 7- to 12-year-olds through
Corona's parks and community services department for four years.

Inland Democrats and Republicans are inviting supporters of Barack Obama and John McCain to
their new area campaign offices this weekend.
The California Republican Party is holding a grand opening celebration from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
today at the Riverside County Republican headquarters, 21150 Box Springs Road, Suite 201,
Riverside. The party announced this week it was kicking off its campaign to get McCain and other
Republicans elected in November.
Obama supporters are holding an open house from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at their new campaign
office in the newly opened Democratic headquarters at 9496 Magnolia Ave., Suite 101, Riverside.
Several Riverside clubs and campaigns are housed in the same office.

Festival gives details on 'Macbeth' staging

The Inland Empire Shakespeare Festival's staging of "Macbeth" is set for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at
Sycamore Highlands Park, 5777 Fair Isle Drive, and at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at Fairmount Park, 2601
Fairmount Blvd., both in Riverside. The Riverside dates are free.
The play is also set for 8 p.m. Aug. 1, 3, 9 and 10 at San Bernardino Valley College Auditorium,

A nationally ranked Poly High School sophomore chess champion is hosting a summer chess club 1-

Sunil Deolaikar, who is ranked No. 60 in the nation for his age group, will host the club, assisted by
the Riverside Youth Chess Association and Riverside Public Library Teen Space.

Zoumut will show 30 mixed-media paintings and computer graphics in the second-floor gallery
including the "Floating Image" series of 20 paintings, many of which were created in collaboration
with her Corona-based students.
She has been teaching drawing, painting and animation classes for 7- to 12-year-olds through
Corona's parks and community services department for four years.

Auditions for "Inland Idol" begin Saturday July 19 at Inland Center Mall in San Bernardino and July

and will be broken down into three age groups: 7 through 10, 11 through 14 and 15 through 18.

The first solo show for Corona-based artist and art instructor ReemaZoumut is set from Saturday
through Aug. 30 at the Corona Public Library, 650 S. Main St. A reception is set from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday.
Zoumut will show 30 mixed-media paintings and computer graphics in the second-floor gallery
including the "Floating Image" series of 20 paintings, many of which were created in collaboration
with her Corona-based students.
She has been teaching drawing, painting and animation classes for 7- to 12-year-olds through
Corona's parks and community services department for four years.

Auditions for 'South Pacific' set for Aug. 12

Performance Riverside is set to hold open call auditions for professional non-union performers for a
production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific" at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at Landis
Performing Arts Center at Riverside City College. Callbacks are set for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13.
Prepare 16 bars of a song and a contrasting song that show voice and personality. Bring a resume,
headshot, and biography. Weekend and weeknight rehearsals begin Aug. 23 and performances are
set for Sept. 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 at Landis.
The production will be directed and choreographed by Roger Castellano and musically directed by

Cooking with Chef Martha

The Corona Senior Center is offering a new class, "Cooking with Chef Martha," designed to educate
seniors on healthy cooking through demonstrations, lectures and hands-on participation. The first

Grandparents Day donations accepted

The Volunteer Center of Riverside County plans to celebrate Grandparents Day on Sept. 7 by
delivering bouquets of flowers to residents of nursing care facilities. For a $25 donation, a bouquet
will be delivered by an ombudsman.
National Grandparents Day was established by Marian McQuade, of West Virginia. Her primary
motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly residents in nursing homes.
A $25 donation will purchase a bouquet, promote public awareness regarding the unmet needs of
this at-risk population and fund further educational services and training materials. All orders must

Youth Theatre to stage 'Cats,' 'Aristocrats'

Riverside Youth Theatre's fourth annual Summer Youth Theatre Festival is presenting "Cats" and
"Aristocats" beginning Aug. 7 at the Wallace Theatre, Cal Baptist University, 8432 Magnolia Ave. in
Riverside. Cost is $12 for regular tickets or $6 for outreach tickets.
"Cats" runs at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16, and at 3 p.m. Aug. 17. The 1980s musical written
by Andrew Lloyd Webber is directed by Debbie Wolgemuth, choreographed by Marcus S. Daniel and
music direction is by Steve Wolgemuth. No children admitted under 4 years of age. The show is
about 2 and a half hours long and features a cast of 30 teens.
"Aristocats" runs at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Aug. 7 for outreach and at 3 p.m. Aug. 9, 10 and 16 for
regular performances. The play, based on the 1970 Disney film, is directed and musically directed
by Aaron Wolgemuth and choreographed by Robert Lopez. No children under 3 years of age are
admitted. The show is about one hour long and features a cast of 65 elementary school children.

Youth Theatre to stage 'Cats,' 'Aristocrats'

Riverside Youth Theatre's fourth annual Summer Youth Theatre Festival is presenting "Cats" and
"Aristocats" beginning Aug. 7 at the Wallace Theatre, Cal Baptist University, 8432 Magnolia Ave. in
Riverside. Cost is $12 for regular tickets or $6 for outreach tickets.
"Cats" runs at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16, and at 3 p.m. Aug. 17. The 1980s musical written
by Andrew Lloyd Webber is directed by Debbie Wolgemuth, choreographed by Marcus S. Daniel and
music direction is by Steve Wolgemuth. No children admitted under 4 years of age. The show is
about 2 and a half hours long and features a cast of 30 teens.
"Aristocats" runs at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Aug. 7 for outreach and at 3 p.m. Aug. 9, 10 and 16 for
regular performances. The play, based on the 1970 Disney film, is directed and musically directed
by Aaron Wolgemuth and choreographed by Robert Lopez. No children under 3 years of age are
admitted. The show is about one hour long and features a cast of 65 elementary school children.

Chess club sets summer schedule

A nationally ranked Poly High School sophomore chess champion is hosting a summer chess club 1-
3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays on the second floor of the Riverside Main Library, 3581 Mission Inn
Ave.
Sunil Deolaikar, who is ranked No. 60 in the nation for his age group, will host the club, assisted by
the Riverside Youth Chess Association and Riverside Public Library Teen Space.

before the competition begins, the Challenged Children's Rodeo will be held to raise funds for the

Chess club sets summer schedule

A nationally ranked Poly High School sophomore chess champion is hosting a summer chess club 1-
3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays on the second floor of the Riverside Main Library, 3581 Mission Inn
Ave.
Sunil Deolaikar, who is ranked No. 60 in the nation for his age group, will host the club, assisted by
the Riverside Youth Chess Association and Riverside Public Library Teen Space.
The club is free and open for all levels of play or lessons. It continues until July 27.

Festival gives details on 'Macbeth' staging

The Inland Empire Shakespeare Festival's staging of "Macbeth" is set for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at
Sycamore Highlands Park, 5777 Fair Isle Drive, and at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at Fairmount Park, 2601
Fairmount Blvd., both in Riverside. The Riverside dates are free.
The play is also set for 8 p.m. Aug. 1, 3, 9 and 10 at San Bernardino Valley College Auditorium,
701 Mount Vernon Ave. in San Bernardino. Tickets are $10.

Mounted Posse PRCA Rodeo set in Norco

The 24th annual Norco Mounted Posse PRCA Rodeo is set for Aug. 22-24 at Ingall's Equestrian
Complex, 3737 Crestview Drive in Norco.
The event includes bull riding, bronc riding, barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling and bull
fighters.
On Aug. 22 all Norco city employees get free admission compliments of the Norco Mounted Posse.
There is a dance on the night of Aug. 23 with a performance by the Doo Wah Riders. On Aug. 24,
before the competition begins, the Challenged Children's Rodeo will be held to raise funds for the
Debbie Chisholm Memorial Foundation, which grants wishes and assists the families of children with
life-threatening illness.

Grandparents Day donations accepted

The Volunteer Center of Riverside County plans to celebrate Grandparents Day on Sept. 7 by
delivering bouquets of flowers to residents of nursing care facilities. For a $25 donation, a bouquet
will be delivered by an ombudsman.
National Grandparents Day was established by Marian McQuade, of West Virginia. Her primary
motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly residents in nursing homes.
A $25 donation will purchase a bouquet, promote public awareness regarding the unmet needs of
this at-risk population and fund further educational services and training materials. All orders must
