Adding Newborn to PPO California – Average Cost Increase?

I had a question that i hoped several people could chime in on. I have a PPO plan thru Blue Shield CA, my wife and I were previously paying about $750 monthly for a “Silver 1950” plan. When adding our newborn we received notice that the new rate would be around $1000-1100. This seemed reasonable. However several weeks later we received an “adjustment” notice stating that our actual new rate would be ~$1450 monthly…

My question is, has anyone else with a PPO plan seen their rate DOUBLE when adding a newborn? If it’s normal, that’s fine, but if I’m getting hosed I’d love to know!

Thanks in advance!
