Double insurance

Hello! I elected into my employer health insurance which started 9/1/2020. I got married at the end of October and my husband added me to his plan in mid November and they retroactivated it to 11/1/2020. I had no idea I needed to cancel my plan at work within 30 days and procrastinated due to the holidays (I work in a super busy restaurant even during Covid which is why I even signed up for their insurance in the first place) and generally not knowing how to. I sent the request in to HR after figuring out who to contact at the beginning of January. I hadn’t used my work insurance at all outside of one Dr visit in late October.

They are not letting me cancel due to being outside of the 30 window allowed for a qualifying event and not during open enrollment which isn’t until July. I now have their insurance as my primary (it covers literally nothing and no one will accept it…that one Dr visit in late October is costing me $1,600 out of pocket) and my husband’s (great isurance) as my secondary. Am I completely screwed or is there some way out of this beside quitting my job? Will this set up be ok until I am able to opt out of my employer insurance? I have no idea what to do here and my HR department is apparently terrible.

Edit: My employer plan is an MEC Blue plan in TX.
