Employer Healthcare

Hello all! I just want to start off by saying I know absolutely nothing about health insurance policies. So if I sound like I don’t know what I’m talking about I’m sorry. I am 23 and live in Texas. So I recently started a new job. I had a new hire enrollment period and then an open enrollment period for next year. I signed both my wife and myself up for the insurance. It was a bit pricey compared to my other job but I did not really realize how much was actually going to come out of my check. I received my paycheck today and realized more than half had gone to benefits. I make 16 an hour and get paid weekly. My benefits are also deducted weekly from my check. I tried to call my HR and cancel it but since I’ve already made my elections and they are done on a pre-tax basis, I’m unable to change or cancel anything through my employer until this time next year. It kind of puts me at making poverty wages. I found a health insurance plan online that is a lot cheaper and I’m thinking about signing up for it. My question is, if I do this, can this be a qualifying event to the IRS to be able to cancel my employer based health insurance? Any help or insight on this is greatly appreciated!!
