ER Bill with or without insurance.

Hello.

We received a bill from the ER for over 1k.

My bf went to the ER early one morning. During the time he was in there I was on the phone with the insurance company trying to get his coverage sorted. We had no member number for him and so we told the ER he had no insurance. He wasn’t in for more than 5 minutes because they wouldn’t listen. Spent an hour and a half in the waiting room though.

Much later that day we got his insurance sorted and we got a member number for him. We went to urgent care and he wound up in the hospital for a few days.

We want to dispute this ER bill because they DID NOT help him in any way. He was given NO assistance and NO DISCHARGE paperwork or any kind of paperwork for that matter. They made sure to get his information for billing though which we were not surprised about. They did not pick up on his serious medical issue that the other hospital did.

How do we approach this?

I will be calling them tomorrow to dispute and request a detailed itemization of everything. Or should the insurance companies handle it now?

I wouldn’t have such a big issue with this ER if they would of actually helped him but they didn’t.

Thank you for any help.

ETA: We’re in NV and he now has dual coverage insurance.
