Fired

I was fired 5/27. I had health insurance through the company that my manager (who fired me) paid for. I was wrongfully terminated, but TN is a fire at will state. In either case, I thought I would have insurance for at least another month.

I’d had a surgery consult scheduled for 6/3, for a heller myotomy, a necessary surgery I needed. We scheduled the HM for 6/9. Checked the Humana website often to see any changes of insurance, never saw anything. Called Humana on 6/11 to see what bills I owe and how much, and was then notified my manager cancelled my insurance on 6/8, the day before my surgery, and even backdated it to 5/31.

What is going to happen to my bills? Exactly how fucked am I? According to Humana, he had every right and ability to cancel my insurance whenever he chose. No HR, it’s a small family company. Humana suggested cobra, but I’ve heard enough about it in this sub to know how horrendously expensive it is. I’ve applied via the marketplace. I’m terrified, and trying to recover from major surgery. I have another job already, but obviously can’t work until I’m better, and they don’t offer insurance.
