Health Insurance Recommendations for High Income Households// Disability Income Questions

Hello everyone.

Not too sure which subreddit to put this under.

But anyways, we (parents + me) are looking for health insurance. We had an insurance from my dad’s employer but that will soon end because he got laid off because of COVID. We have already applied for CoveredCalifornia and got approved for LA Care but they’re charging us $900+ a month for the basic HMO plan, which is WAYYY too expensive. My mom makes about $14 an hour and my dad is currently on disability making about $2,600 every two weeks. I am currently unemployed and is under the PUA program, getting about $300 every two weeks. The household income is mainly from my dad’s disability. I’m curious if anyone has any health insurance recommendations for high income households, especially those that does not count disability benefits as part of the overall household income.

(Also another question, I looked up CoveredCa countable income and it says that Disability money that is untaxed is not counted. My dad’s disability is untaxed but the agent we talked on the phone said that as long as it’s EDD, it is counted. I’m just confused about that. Do you guys have any input on this ?! )

Thank you! Any help is appreciated.
