I’m changing insurance providers, but there’s a lapse between me losing my old coverage, and receiving my new information. How do I manage a daily prescription that I need to re-order in the meantime?

So I turn 26 today.

My insurance coverage under my parents ends at the end of the month, but I can’t enroll in my company’s health insurance until the day my old coverage ends (for some reason, there just isn’t an option to just start coverage a few days in the future.) Per the information we’ve just received at our annual health insurance meeting, we’re switching providers, and won’t be receiving new insurance cards and info for up to two weeks after enrollment.

So what am I supposed to do in that time? I can’t confirm whether or not places (specifically the online pharmacy that I get my birth control from) will take my new insurance without providing info that I won’t have for awhile. And of course it works out that I have to refill this prescription on December 5th, so I need to know if it’s going to be covered.

(I also need to find a new doctor, but I think I’m on top of that one?)

What are my options?
