[MA] Work insurance really bad? I’m not great at math.

Wife was laid off end of October and we were fortunate that they offered to cover us until end of year. Today I setup our healthcare through work, and the values seemed very high. Previously she was paying about $180 bi-weekly with the rest being covered by her employer. Today, when putting my numers in, it was only around $150 or so, but when adding her it jumped to around $470. There was a note about “not costing more than 9% of total income” however I think that may only apply to single person plans?

I’m a bit concerned as I took this job to go back to school, and I’ve still 18 months to finish my degree. I currently earn about 55k a year and she was earning close to 80, but job hunting has been very slow for obvious reasons. If these numbers are correct, that means about 1/3rd of my total income weekly income is going to be eaten by our health coverage? Were these numbers before my companys coverage comes out? It didn’t look like it.

Bit concerned, very stressed because we can’t forgo health insurance w/ covid + MA doesn’t allow it.
