Medi-Cal or Covered CA?

I am a green card holder whose current contract is coming to an end at the end of March. I am also completing a part-time masters degree, and though I was hoping to have landed a job right after my current job ends, looking for a new gig has been difficult due to the economy/pandemic etc. I was planning to stay in the US for a few months to try and find a new job, and if unsuccessful go back to my home country. As my MS is part time and online, I am not eligible for healthcare through my school.

Given the pandemic, don’t want to risk being uninsured for the period while I’m looking for a new job. If I go to the covered-CA website, and I put in my income as $0 (which it will be after the 31st of March), it says I qualify for Medi-Cal.

Two questions:

  1. Would going on Medi-cal make me a public charge for immigration purposes? Obviously I would rather pay oop rather than jeapordize future naturalization prospects, but at the same time I don’t want to have to pay if I don’t have to.
  2. How long does it take to get medi-cal? I looked online, and it said that Medi-cal takes around 45 days to process, so if I start my application on the 1st, and hope to get coverage by the 15th I could use the COBRA back-date policy for the first few weeks of April.

Essentially, I am trying to ask if medi-cal is a viable option for me, or is it better to bite the bullet and pay for coveredCA?

Thanks
