MRI Insurance Nightmare

I’m trying to go in for an MRI (its been an absolute nightmare). So here is the deal, MRI facility (free standing) says the cost to me for the MRI is only $50 which is my co-pay. I find this suspicious since the plan documents say MRIs are covered 20% AFTER deductible is met and I have NOT my deductible at all. I even talked to my insurance company and they confirmed I would end up paying $450 out of pocket! Strangely, the imaging facility is ‘confident’ that it would just be $50 dollars.

I found another facility that was willing to do it for $375 out of pocket without insurance which means I would be saving a good chunk of change. Keep in mind any money spent lowering my deductible does me no good since the deductible goes to zero in 2 weeks.

So what should I do?

  1. Go to imaging facility and pray I only end up paying $50 without any surprise bills later
  2. Go to the second imaging facility and pay the cash price of $375 effectively saving $75 bucks
  3. Wait another 2 weeks for the MRI. I kind of don’t want to do this already since another 2 weeks of not knowing sounds miserable.

Thoughts ?
