Other option if employer insurance is too high?

Must Read

My husband just started a new job. We signed up online with their insurance. When we submitted out application, it never told us the premiums for their 2 plan options. Not once. We later found out the employer pays the insurance company and they deduct from his paycheck, which is why the website didn’t state the premiums.

He is only making about 2500 a month. We just got confirmation that his employer will pay 100% of his premium ($430 a month) but they aren’t helping with me and our 2 kids. They said it was $1,033 a month for us. And their plans weren’t that great, with high deductibles.

I couldn’t believe it. We can’t even come close to affording that. My husband has VA health insurance so we don’t even need him covered. And they want to take almost 40% of his salary just for insurance?

Me and the kids have been on medicaid for a few years while he finished school after military but I’m sure they will boot us off of that if employer health insurance is an option? And we won’t get any type of help through the marketplace either?

I literally do NOT know what to do. How do people afford to live. Is there any options if you just literally can NOT afford your employer based insurance?

Orlando, FL by the way.
