Preventative eye exam turned medical??

Maybe this will become a TIL. Husband and I went in for a routine eye exam for updated prescription. We added a Fundus photography. A few weeks later we got a bill for specialist copay. In my call with Aetna and the provider, I found that because the doctor detected some medical issue, it was coded as such and I’m now responsible for $50 copay/pp. I’m dumb founded. Neither my husband or I have any urgent/unknown conditions that the doctor mentioned. He gave us the general run down. The Aetna agent said I could file a appeal. Any Redditors with this experience that can advise if I should appeal or not? Thanks!
