Qualifying for Purchasing on the Marketplace

We haven’t had health insurance since March when my husband lost his job. He then worked for a little while and was let go, the insurance we would have gotten through them never kicked in. He starts a new job Monday. It’s contract with zero benefits – so we have to find our own insurance. They pay twice a month but due to the way the pay periods are set up, his first check won’t be very much and will be at the end of the month. I know the open enrollment ends on December 15th, but due to our circumstances will we be able to pick up insurance later than that? Anyone know the timeline when starting a job how long they give you to choose a plan and making the first payment?

We’re in Texas, if that makes any difference with that.
