Hi, I went for a yearly physical to see my primary physician and during the visit, I mentioned some back pain and for a referral to get an X-ray. Because I asked this, they changed the office visit meaning from “yearly physical” to “worsening back pain”. This surprised me because what was supposed to be a fully covered, free visit (my insurance allows for 1 free physical per year) actually turned into a $200 bill (this is completely separate from the actual X-rays I received weeks later, which was only like $50). I called and asked them if they can change the visit back to a “physical” in the system and they said no.
Is this normal? I thought physicals are also for general well-being and to see how everything is going. Maybe I’m mistaken and shouldn’t bring anything major up during these visits.
