They’ve pulled back the curtain on the 2021 plans, and Empire Blue Cross/Shield is back after a year gone from the offerings (I spent 2020 year in MVP, paying out of pocket about half the time due to sparse doctor acceptance of MVP. Never again!):
- Fidelis
- MVP
- Oscar
- EmblemHealth
- United Healthcare
- HealthPlus (dba Empire BlueCross BlueShield HealthPlus)
The Empire/Healthplus plan at silver costs $882/month in Westchester county. High but not insane.
The two questions at the top of my mind are:
- I’m worried the “HealthPlus” branding might make this a BlueCross flavor doctors go out of their way to exclude. I found that a few times in 2019 (and before) when some docs said “we accept all flavors of Empire Blue Cross except their exchange plans”. Hope that doesn’t worsen now.
- No way I’ll ever do MVP again, but are any of the others reasonably well-accepted? That for me is the most important thing. I don’t want to settle for crappy docs.
