26 Male, losing health insurance temporarily on 5/24 due to reduction of hours at work.

I’ve reduced my hours at work significantly so I can focus on an entrance exam to get into grad school. I have a large emergency cash fund and I moved back in with my parents to keep costs low. I’ll be without health insurance for 4-6 months.

I’m hearing conflicting opinions on what I should do. I work with a fair amount of people who don’t have health insurance period and they also recommend going no-insurance as it saves money. I think they’re making poor choices, so thats why I’m here. I’ve browsed the marketplace and it looks like rates for me will be between $150-350/month for a bronze plan with an $8500 out of pocket/deductible. I’ve also read that subsidies exist that essentially make any bronze plan free. I‘ve never shopped for insurance before and my parents have always gotten theirs from work.

Can anybody point me in the right direction or offer advice on what I should do? Zip code is 48323 and my projected income for this year (taking into account the reduction in hours) is $14k.
