9k ambulance transport after insurance?!

Our local hospital transferred my 1 year old son to Boston children’s hospital (70 miles away) because he was having seizures and they wanted him to be evaluated by a pediatric neurologist. We said we would take him there ourselves but they were concerned he would have another seizure on the way there, so they insisted he ride in an ambulance or else we would be going against medical advice, etc.

4 months later we get a bill for $9k from the ambulance company saying it won’t be covered by insurance since it was out of network. Is there anything we can do?!
