Hello everyone,
I’m in a bit of an interesting situation and am seeking advice.
I live in California, and recently quit my job to start a new one (my last day of employment is tomorrow). My new job was supposed to start in early January, but due to Coronavirus it has has been pushed back to April at the earliest.
The new job is an international teaching job in Japan, so my new insurance will be provided by the Japanese government.
My question is, since I will still be in the US for a few months, and will be unemployed, how should I go about health coverage for a few months.
Should I apply for coverage via Cobra, and maintain my current coverage through my employer? Or should I try applying for Medi-CAL?
I’m looking for a low cost option, since I will be without income for a few months, but I definitely need coverage for a doctor’s checkup as my new international job may require a new examination due to the delay.
Any advice would be deeply appreciated!!
Edit: For added context.
My employer was in North Hollywood, CA but I have moved back home to zip 92392 for the time being.
I am 26 years old, and made about 54k last year.
