I recently went for a routine eye exam and made a new pair of reading glasses. I got EOB and it doesn’t match my itemized bill from the doctor.
Insurance says that the total was $720, my out of pocket was $176, they paid $220 and the rest was discount.The doctor charged me $349 out of pocket and the bill said that he expects extra $556 from the insurance.
The itemized bill from the doctor matches somewhat EOB, but not exactly… is also has more charges and excluded tax.
I am new to the US insurances and I have no idea if that’s normal… I wrote to VSP a week ago but haven’t heard back.
- Is it possible that I still owe more, since the doctor expected more to be paid by the insurance?
- I think that some of the charges exceed what my insurance states as a maximum charge for an in network visit… can I complain about it?
- The doctor insisted that I give him also my health insurance data, on top of my vision insurance ‘in case we need it’. Is that normal?
