So summer of 2019 I went from seasonal work to year-round employment, due to that I had to switch to a marketplace plan for 2020. I did that in February 2020 so I assumed if I wanted to change my plan it would be the same this year. Obviously I shouldn’t have assumed because I missed the open enrollment period and am stuck with my silver plan which has been a burden to pay for. Also I’m about to lose a pretty cushy living situation and my rent is about to quadruple (or more,) so I’m trying to pare back expenses wherever I can. All the representative would tell me (in fact they kept repeating it like they were trying to give me a hint,) was “the open enrollment period is only for the uninsured.” So my question is, if I were to cancel my current health insurance and after the coverage ends Feb 28th try to enroll through Washington health plan finder, would I be able to? At that point I would technically qualify as uninsured, would I not? I don’t want to risk not having healthcare until November but I also can’t afford my current plan. Any insight would be appreciated.
