ACA Premium Subsidies and Lower Income [South Carolina]

South Carolina here. Age 28 female. I am a new mother and have dropped down from full time to part-time at my job and will be losing my employer’s health insurance. I am unmarried. My child will be on her father’s insurance plan. So I will only seek coverage for myself. I will claim my child as a dependent on my taxes.

When I estimate my salary to be $17,300 for the year, it states I will get a premium tax credit of $453/month. Which if I chose a bronze plan this way, I’ll pay $0/month. I don’t really go to the doctor for any serious conditions. Just 4 office visits a year to my PCP to get my ADHD prescription written.

When I estimate my salary to be $17,200, it states I am not eligible for a premium tax credit and I won’t be covered by the plans.

Let’s say I estimate $17,300 and take the $453/month subsidy throughout the year. What happens if at the end of year it was determined that I made less than $17,300? What happens? What do I owe?

Just really nervous about being screwed over. I don’t believe I qualify for Medicaid as I grossed $60K in 2020.
