My ER bill was denied by my insurance company saying they didn’t consider the visit to be life threatening. I guess my question is why is it my responsibility as a patient to determine if I need to go to the ER when I’m having an issue in the middle of the night?
A couple months ago I got up to use the bathroom and had a pain in my butt muscle. After leaving the restroom I went to the kitchen to grab an ice pack because it hurt so bad. While walking back to my bed, I got dizzy, nauseous, and my legs felt numb or they started to give out. It was a completely weird feeling that I had never felt in my life and it scared the shit out of me. I had my husband take me to the ER and I was shaking so hard and crying, basically freaking out and didn’t really know why.
Found out that my claim was denied because my condition was not life threatening. Like wth? Is it up to the person in distress to sit back and determine if what is happening to them could potentially kill them before heading to the ER? I mean, I’m not a doctor! One thing is for certain though, I will have to be unconscious before I ever consider going again to one.
