Inbetween insurance help

My husband is voluntarily leaving the military on March 28 and has a new job set up for April 9. The new job has a health insurance plan we plan to use but they will not let us pay to start it early (we have asked). We have 4 kids so I am leery to not have health insurance for 2 weeks but I also don’t want to pay a large sum of money for it for just 2 weeks. We looked into the after military option but it is $3600 for 90 days (we are considering it). I have looked at the marketplace for insurance and it’s looking like it would be $500 plus a crazy high deductible, which would at least give us basic coverage incase something crazy happens. But can we sign up just for 1 month? I’ve never had to use the marketplace so I don’t know it works. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!!
