Hi!
Ugh, I was on the line with BCBS in Texas for over an hour while the cs rep searched for the answer to my question. I assume she didn’t know because then she just hung up on me.
So my question is. I am pregnant and I have a $4000 deductible.
My gynecologist wants to put me on a payment contract where I have to pay $400/month for 8 months, in order to meet my deductible.
This does not include the labor and delivery cost from the hospital.
I asked coworkers under the same insurance plan how much they paid and they say it was $400/month for 8 months to the doctor, and the hospital bill was another $2500.
So total came out to around $5,700.
On my insurance summary of benefits it states that hospital visits and stays are 30% copay. Which to my understanding means I am liable for 30% of the bill.
Since I live on the border I am considering getting my prenatal care in Mexico for a fraction of the cost and just delivering here in the US.
So my question is, for labor and delivery at the hospital will I have to meet the $4000 deductible first and on top of that pay the 30% that is leftover from the bill?
So let’s say labor and delivery is 10k, will I have to pay the first 4K to meet deductible and then 1800 which would be 30% of the remaining 6k???
All I can find on the internet is that labor and delivery must be covered because of the ACA. Does this mean I don’t have to meet deductible for this?? I can’t get an answer to my question from anywhere!!
If I have to meet my deductible first for labor and delivery then I guess I would just get prenatal care here in the US.
This sucks, I pay $300/month for health insurance ro have it cover almost nothing. Uugghhh
