Hey all, I’m hoping you can help me with an insurance question.
I currently have healthcare in the US through COBRA. My plan is good but expensive – I pay $350/mo. I married an Australian and I now qualify for Medicare in Australia which is awesome. We usually split our time between the US and Australia but have been in Australia for the past year+ due to Covid. So I’ve been paying for US health insurance all this time even though I haven’t been using it, because I’m afraid of losing it. I’m already planning to transition all my healthcare to Australia and use Medicare – I’m in good health with no health problems so all pretty routine just yearly check ups. I’m mostly just afraid that if, god forbid, I get into a freak car accident or something when I’m back in the US I’ll be totally screwed without insurance. But I’d also love to not pay $350/mo for insurance I’m not using.
I know this is a really specific situation but if you were me, what would you do? Would love any thoughts/advice on this. Thanks!
