Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois HMO Help!

I am 22, from 60641, and I make less than $10,000 a year (I’m a student)

I recently got BCBS Blue Precision HMO and I have never had an HMO before. It is also through the heathcare marketplace.

I see a specialist at a hospital which said they take my insurance but for Specialists and by referral only. I went to my PCP and they said that since they are not in the Medical group or they called it the “PCP Network” (i.e Something like “Advanced Unified Physicians”) that they would not approve the referral.

I was/am a previously established patient with my specialist and I believe that if my PCP petitioned the insurance they would approve it. Is this false hope or am I correct in my assessment of how this works?

Thank you so much for y’all’s help. I am really freaking out about this!

edit: Forgot the identifying information to help 🙂
