Hi, I am an employee of menards (midwestern version of home depot) in minnesota.
I have been at my job just under 3 months, I had health insurance at my old job and enrolled in insurance for my current job so there is 3 months with no coverage.
The start date for insurance at my new job begins the first of the month following 60 days. (april 1st in this case.) My last day i was working was march 19th, a friday and then i had the weekend off. on that saturday the 20th I injured my knee. I went to an orthopedic clinic the next day the 21st.
Doctors want an MRI but insurance needs to pre approve. (at this time i had already been paying weekly payments for insurance and was unaware of start date.)
Doctor and I agree to wait till the first and they write me a note saying i am unable to work until we get MRI.
My HR understands and insurance is aware of whats going on.
Today (Thur Mar 25th) I received a call from my HR saying my insurance will not start unless i am able to work up to and on the day my insurance goes into effect.
I am completely lost on all of this and just want to get treatment. I have been paying and my insurance is to activate on april 1st, but due to receiving an injury 11 days before my policy starts and i am not working, my policy will not start at all???
EDIT: currently explore a seated work restriction for april 1st, then insurance kicks in, then MRI, then etc.
