Should I include my family on my employer’s health insurance?

I don’t have much information to provide so the advice I’m looking for is in general. I apologize for the vagueness. I was just hired on to a company which provides health insurance. Health, dental, vision, life. For me, the employee, I’m told the employer pays 99% of the premium. As for my family, my wife and two toddlers, I’m told I’m to pay much more for them. I don’t know any numbers at this point. I guess my question could be: How common is it to have a separate health plan for ones family? In general would I find better options/deals by insuring my family on a separate plan. Once again I apologize for the vagueness. This is something I haven’t considered until recently so my understanding is limited. Thank you.
