Hi guys, 37M, father of 4, wife works from home, doesn’t bring in much. Louisiana 70374.
I was making $55k/yr at a job, got offered another job through a recruitment company making $65k/yr. Asked them about the health insurance, they dragged their feet about it. I was paying $600/mo at previous job for my whole family.
Almost a week after they offered me the job, I finally learned MY health insurance through them would be $260/mo, but that didn’t include my dependants. They would’ve needed all their SSNs to give me an estimate, and hadn’t told me that… Anyway it already took too long and they were waiting for an answer, and I didn’t want the company to not hire me because I was dragging my feet “for something as silly as health insurance” (my own dumbass words), so I accepted their offer.
My last day with my previous company was yesterday (after a 2-week notice). The new company JUST finally let me know that the grand total of my health insurance for me and all my dependants is $1740/month, squashing my pay increase+$300 lost per month.
What can I do here? I –THINK– my salary is too high for Obamacare.
My heart is heavy from how bad I’ve fucked this up. My wife is going to fucking murder me… She told me to make them wait and get the estimate first, but I thought no one was as heartless to have not told me how bad it could be. I also couldn’t stand the owners at my previous job.
Thanks for listening….
