Random 1600 dollar charge from health insurance provider

This morning I woke up to the pleasant notification of an overdraft on my checking account. Come to find out that my health insurance company, a short term insurance that I got when I joined a start up, opted to charge me 1600 dollars out of no where at least from my understanding. Technichally it was 2 800 dollar bills. Went on the portal and saw an 800 dollar statement for the month of April, but get this, 2059. Not entirely sure how that happened. Anyways I called customer service and they have no clue what’s happening, in fact they read that 800 dollars as a credit to my account as opposed to charge which I also have no clue where that would come from.

Anyways, talk on the phone with them, I have to send them a screenshot of my bank statement via Fax to them (finding a fax machine was hard and the fact that we use them for things like this is nonsense but that’s a different issue). Anyways I’m kind of here twisting in the wind here waiting for an update. I am pretty jaded against this system anyway and feel like they could just take the 1600 dollars without any explanation and I won’t be able to do anything about it.

Any advice on how I can guarantee getting this money back?

At the very least I’m almost certainly switching to my graduate programs insurance come July after this. If this is a clerical error it’s one hell of a clerical error to me.
