Why is it insanely cheaper to get a three month supply of a drug instead of one month?

I couldn’t find a better place to ask. I have three monthly prescriptions, each one costs around $5 a month to fill. I have my pharmacist setup so every month I get a text asking me to confirm my prescription, I click a link and hit submit, and my prescriptions show up in the mail two days later. Convenient!

I ask my doctor if I could switch to three month supplies and he said yes, no problem, put the order in. But when I went to order, it was a one month script. I gave it a month Incase things just needed to work out on the back end but the next month I only got a month again. Then I got a letter in the mail. It says my insurance denies me the ability to fill three months of any prescription through a pharmacy (I’m not even on anything of note like a pain killer, it’s just regular stuff). Instead I have to order online through their website, then I can get 90 day supplies. Further, if I keep using the pharmacy, they will raise the prices of my prescription.

Here’s the kicker. I’m paying ~$15 a month now for my prescriptions. For the same prescriptions, for three months if I order through their website, is $6. For 90 days. How is this possible? I don’t want to use their site because it takes two weeks to deliver and my current scripts will run out in the meantime, even if I order a week early which is the earliest they’ll let me.

How does this happen? Is there any way around this?
