I have Kaiser Bronze 60 HMO through covered california this year. I entered $70k as the annual income for a 34 and 30 year old (my wife and I) and pay $423 per month. The monthly bills I get says it’s $725 original cost, minus -$302 CA Premium Subsidy, and $0 APTC.
However, by chance I went to coveredca.com today and entered the same information ($70k, two people, Kaiser Bronze 60, same zip code) into the shop-and-compare tool and it says that, if I were to sign up now (which would be possible if I had a life-altering event), I would pay $324 per month, which is $725 – $0 CA Premium Subsidy – $401 Federal APTC subsidy.
That makes no sense. #1 why would the amount be different, and #2 why would I get a lots of California subsidies and no federal in one case, and NO CA subsidies and a lot of federal subsidies in the other case?? So confused.
