Just married! Spouse is a.) *not* eligible for ACA or Medicaid, b.) has very low income, and c.) is currently qualified for a (temporary) 100% discount for hospital services. Adding spouse to my insurance = +$190/mo. (before copays, deductibles, etc.) What should I do? [More info inside. Thank you.]

Currently in our special enrollment period after our wedding. Have about one week left before the special enrollment period closes.
NOT eligible for ACA/Medicaid (as far as our case worker knows) Am terrified of the prospect of Spouse not being covered and having an injury. Currently uninsured and recent injury led to 100% discount of hospital bills (temporary) Also overwhelmed by the prospect of +$190 in premiums/mo. for someone who has little to no income right now (and no major health issues, other than the recent injury) The increase in costs are ONLY for health insurance (and do not include dental, vision, etc.)

I am feeling the pressure of the special enrollment period closing and do not want to make a bad choice. What is the best “right” thing to do?:

Continue uninsured (and save $2,250 (60%) of $3,750 in premiums, plus avoiding any deductibles, etc.) and continue seeking income-based discounted services?

OR

Add Spouse to insurance despite their inability to pay the premiums right now?

Thanks.
