The dangers of buying non-ACA compliant insurance plans

Propublica wrote an excellent article on the pitfalls of buying short-term/non-aca compliant insurance. It’s something to be aware of when buying insurance outside of the https://www.healthcare.gov website.

Non-ACA complaint insurance companies are required to disclose that fact that their policy does not comply with the affordable care act, but a lot of people don’t understand what that means in terms of coverage for their medical conditions, or how those conditions will probably be excluded. Or, even if the medical conditions are included, the policy can limit coverage to such a ridiculously low amount, that the policy holder will be left on the hook for huge bills.

It’s worth a read if you’re considering buying a policy outside of the marketplace.
