Family Medicare: NJ? Out of work and seeking help

Hi, I posted recently last week about my situation. I’ve been out of work for almost 6 months and my benefits/insurance through my employer is ending. I had brain surgery in December 10th and unfortunately, it wasn’t successful. I’ve been on FMLA, Short Term Disability and in the process of going to Long Term Disability as my next surgery is in June 2nd. I am from NJ and my surgery will be in Los Angeles. My insurance expires in June 7th but luckily, the surgeon was able to accommodate me and have it done before it expired. Yay!

My question is: can I use the NJcovered Medicare in LA after my employer’s insurance expires? I was planning on recovering in LA so I can be closer to my doctor and the surgeon through recovery.

This is all new to me..

I also applied for Social Security Disability and NJcovered. I received a few calls this week and today, someone called me from NJ Family care and asked me which insurance I wanted and that I’ll receive a letter in the mail for the exact date when I’ll be able to use it.

I’m not being mean but the people who called me from NJcovered and social security sounded a bit suspicious like scammers. They didn’t really sound professional. I’ve been getting a lot of scam calls so I was just worried. They all had an accent BUT when I googled their #, it did show up as NJ family care and social security disability government etc. they also informed my information as well as my doctor’s so I know they’re legit.

Does this mean I’ll get disability payments for my illness too?

I’m very surprised how quickly it’s moving.

Also: even though I’m out of work, I am still receiving 70% of my pay through my insurance. Short Term Disability and Long Term. Is this considered as income? Will Social Security Disability and NJcovered be aware of this?!

Again I’m all new to this 😭 please let me know and thank you all for your help!
