I’ve heard a few things, not sure what is accurate. I’m trying to understand, if I have insurance, what am I actually paying to the doctor?
Here’s the confusion:
-I hear some people pay the doctor when at the office. Then after the appointment, the doctor bills insurance, then insurance reimburses the patient. Scenario- my friend had some expensive dental work, he paid the dentist $1500 or so, then he got a check for $1300 back from his dental insurance company.
-I’ve also heard that someone doesn’t pay anything to the doctor at the time of the appointment. Then after the appointment, the doctor bills insurance. Then some time later, the patient receives a bill from the doctor.
Why are there both these scenarios? Are both common? What do they depend on?
Sorry for all the questions, this is just foreign to me and I simply can’t find clear answers online!
