Urgent Care Trying to Bill Me for Timely Filing Denial and Threatening Collections (x-post r/personalfinance)

Back in August, I went to an in-network urgent care for an infection and was treated at my initial appointment with two follow-up appointments. Two of the visits were denied by insurance for a timely filing denial, while one was processed and I paid my co-pay. In February, I received a bill for ~$600 from the urgent care for the two denied visits and was immediately confused, so I called my insurance and the urgent care’s billing department. Insurance said I didn’t have to pay because it was an in-network timely filing denial and it was the urgent care’s fault that they failed to get their shit together and file on time, while the urgent care stated that they would put a 90 day hold on my account while they dealt with insurance.

Fast forward to this week and I get another bill from the urgent care, this time with late fees and a threat to send me to collections. How do I get this urgent care to understand that I don’t owe them anything because they failed to file on time and that they’re breaching their contract with my insurance?

I plan on calling my insurance tomorrow, but in the meantime, I’ve already contacted the urgent care again and filed a BBB complaint (yes, I know they’re not a government agency, but their page suggests that they’ve responded to complaints and resolved billing issues – something like 80% of their complaints are for billing issues). Is there anything else that I should be doing? I’m worried about them messing up my credit due to their own incompetence or shady billing practices.
