Student health insurance says I can’t drop the plan despite a qualifying event?

I’m on an Aetna student plan that’s supposed to last until July 31. I am getting married on June 5 and want to get on my wife’s employer insurance. Her enrollment period for the qualifying event is 30 days.

I emailed the school and they said I was on an “annual plan” and I could not unenroll regardless of any qualifying events. Is that true?

If so, should I enroll in my wife’s plan regardless before the enrollment period closes?
