As I explained in the title, I’m a US citizen and I live outside the US. I’m moving to Raleigh, NC for my Graduate degree this Aug.
I’m looking for good and economic options for medical insurance for when I go, and I wanted to ask if anyone knows any agencies that have good prices for US citizens students that are coming from abroad.
The one that my college offers is a little expensive (2800$ a year) and I’m looking for options. My peers who aren’t US citizens have found different International Student Insurance providers like ISOA which is very cheap as compared to the plan offered by my University. I can’t apply because I’m a US citizen and I’m not considered an international student. Also, some other insurances for US citizens require me to be a resident and work in the US which I do not apply for now.
I’m looking for a plan similar to the prices of the ISOA insurance, but I can’t seem to find any… Does anyone know any medical insurance agency that may have similar monthly prices? It would help me a lot.
I’ve also been looking at short-term insurance plans from UHC. Is there any downside to it? Are these plans ACA compliant?
In summary, I’m looking for a student health insurance plan that’s relatively cheaper than what’s offered by my university and that can apply for a US citizen student coming INTO the US (Raleigh, NC)
Healthy, no previous medical conditions; Age: 22; State: North Carolina; Income: 500$(current Undergraduate student);
