Baby on the way, husband and I are on different plans. Need help with insurance strategy. (Indiana)

My husband’s insurance renews in July or August. Mine renews in January. The baby is due end of July/early August. Ideally we’d choose to put the baby on the plan that has best coverage versus cost, which is my husband’s plan. But then I realized, one of us will have to start paying for coverage for a family plan, so we’d be wasting money on one of us paying a family plan while the other pays for an individual plan, correct? Since neither of us will be losing our jobs anytime soon, could I be eligible for special enrollment to get on to his family plan, Or would it only work to have my husband opt out of his plan in July and add him to my plan?
