I’m Irish and living in NYC and I’ve never dealt with health insurance before. My wife and I are currently on Aetna choice pos II. The whole thing is a little confusing..
I don’t really understand what a deductible is. I thought it was the amount we paid before the insurance paid anything, but my wife was recently in the hospital and our $5000 bill was only $300 after insurance..
Our plan also says we have a payment limit of $6000 for us combined. I assumed after we were finished paying our deductible (3000), we were finished paying. Or is this the limit that the insurance will pay?
I’m also just a little concerned because I often see people saying they paid thousands of dollars in medical bills after an accident even with insurance and i want to understand if that could happen to us. From looking at the plan it looks like they cover 80% of everything and we cover the rest, but that’s where I get confused with the payment limit again. Will they cover 100% when this limit is reached?
