Paying out of pocket when voluntarily leaving a job [California]

Hello. Thanks for taking the time to check out my posting.

Please note I realize what I “should” do is keep my job, but I’m asking more of what I’m “obligated” to do. There is a whole lot more to this story than what’s noted here.

Summary:

– I am at my wits end and need to leave a job for stress, quality of life, mental health, etc

– I already have interviews and am working with recruiters for another role. I expect an offer within 3-6 weeks for multiple new jobs.

– I cannot wait at my current toxic role that long. I need to resign asap.

– I will live for that gap period off of savings. I do not need to take any benefits. I can pay for bills using savings/emergency fund for several months, but I don’t anticipate I’ll need it that long (my career role is in hot demand and I am lucky enough to have a lot of experience and a senior role)

Questions:

– Am I obligated to go to coveredca.com right away? Can I legally just not get insurance during that time (and risk it if I get hurt/etc)? I have no prior conditions and just recently got my yearly physical/lab work/etc.

– IF signing up for coveredca, would household income be essentially what I’ve made year-to-date?If so, is it NET or GROSS year-to-date?

Appreciate it.

Please be nice, I’m struggling mental health wise, and just seeking advice and I want to ensure I’m not breaking any rules.
