Hey all, I apologize in advance if this question is stupid but I have literally no idea how health insurance works, and I don’t have anyone to help me navigate this.
The title pretty much sums it up. I’m 22, and I’ll be leaving my full time job to attend school in August. This means losing my health insurance, and my school requires health insurance otherwise I’ll be kicked out of my program. My father is out of the picture, and my mother no longer works and is on Medicaid – and states I do not qualify for it and will not help me. I live on my own, I made 80k last year, she does not claim me as a dependent, and I claim myself as independent on my taxes. Is she correct in saying that I do not qualify – and if I do, am I able to go onto Medicaid without her? Do I just call them or does she have to add me? How does that work?
If I don’t qualify, what are my options? And can I go on private insurance outside of the open enrollment period when I leave my full time position?
