Can’t pay “self pay” amount if insurance doesn’t pay?

I received a bill for $395.00, not billed to my insurance. I called the company that gave me the bill to bill it to insurance. But they said that if my insurance decides to not cover it, I have to pay the “insurance cost”. I called my insurance to see if it would be covered and they said “yep, it should be.”. The Insurance cost is $995.

Do I have any options to avoid the $600 difference if my insurance decides to deny the claim? It seems absolutely stupid.
