I was recently admitted to the hospital because I had acute appendicitis. On the first day I got CT scans, IV treatment, antibiotics, you name it, to get my vitals in order. I got my appendectomy done the next day and was discharged the same day.
Now my insurance is deeming my acute inpatient care unnecessary and did not require an inpatient stay at all. They are saying that I was medically stable on admission and my appendicitis did not cause any major complication such as perforation… essentially I wasn’t on my deathbed so the care wasn’t necessary. While I have the savings to pay for it, this is completely ridiculous.
What are the best next steps for me? Do I first call the surgeon’s office to talk with the insurance folks? Thanks all.
