Hi all,
I’m a resident of New York, and last year I purchased insurance through the New York State marketplace. I’ve been making consistent payments this entire time. I recently received a bill from my insurer, stating that I had a balance of $-1700.
I’d assumed that this was just a reimbursement from reduced premium payments, but I was informed by my insurer that my coverage had actually been terminated between the months of March-November of last year. My insurer never informed that this had happened and continued accepting payments all throughout that period. Obviously the worst didn’t happen, and I never needed to use my insurance during that period, but I was informed by my provider that if I had needed it, I would not have been covered during that time.
How does this happen? Are there repercussions for this? Like I’m obviously fine and my insurance has since been reinstated, but I’m angry that this happened at all.
Thank you for your help.
