Need to get a Health Insurance as employer does not offer it

I recently got a contracting job offer. Till now I have only worked as a full time employee and I always got the employment benefits (Medical insurance, 401k etc) through my employer

But with the contracting opportunity, they don’t provide the Benefits. So I don’t get the medical insurance from them. I have no idea where should I get a medical insurance. I see there is something called Affordable care Act. But I don’t know that is just for low income people. I get a decent salary and I’m not looking for any government assistance. Can someone tell me where is the good place to look for a medical insurance?

By the way I’m not a US citizen. I’m a green card holder. The reason I mentioned that is because I dont know whether some of the health plans are available based on the immigration states.

Also I’m in the tech/computer filed. So how you guys working in the tech field as a contractor get your medical insurance?

Appreciate your advice

Thanks
