Apologies if this isn’t the right place but I haven’t been able to find the answer elsewhere. My friend was uninsured for about 3 years and within the past year got a new job with health insurance. He was going to a free clinic for care and getting his medications through them. He has continued to go there and I was telling him that might not be a good idea because he has health insurance now and I don’t know the implications (is it fraud?). I am sure he signed something with the information but he doesn’t remember. I am not a lawyer and don’t really know much about health insurance to know the implications. Does anyone know the answer? Can you go to a free clinic, tell them you don’t have insurance when you really do? Is there anyway the clinic would find out he has insurance and maybe retroactively bill him?
