Questions About Applying for Gov’t Marketplace Coverage with 50/50 Custody

I am leaving my career to become a stay-at-home dad on September 1, 2021. I have a 13-year-old from my first marriage and a 5-year-old from my current marriage. My older kid is already double covered by his mom and step-dad’s respective insurance companies but I want to include him in my ACA coverage if I can do so while maintaining the subsidy.

My wife and I claim him on our taxes on even-numbered years. The health care application asks if someone else will claim Mason as a dependent on their 2021 federal tax return. When I mark yes, it’s asks if Mason lives with that parent and, if so, it then asks for all of bio mom and step-dad’s information, including their income and health insurance information.

Because the other household is claiming him on taxes this year, will this application combine the incomes of both households to factor in subsidy eligibility? Does the fact he’s already double covered by the other household factor in? In either case, would that require us to pay for coverage without any subsidy?

It’s looking like we will opt to not include him in our coverage and just split the costs of what’s left over after both insurances in the other household pay what they will.

Edit: I’m 34 and live in Anchorage, Alaska. Our combined income this year will be about $125k and will likely remain in that ballpark next year.
